Bret Baier, the familiar face of Fox News, recently shared a surprising story: he revealed that his wife, Amy, skillfully “led” him into a marriage he hadn’t seen coming: “It all started with a fateful meeting…”
Bret Baier on Falling for Amy: “I Was Instantly Drawn to Her”
In his memoir Special Heart, the renowned Fox anchor recounted that their romance began with a spontaneous blind date — something he later described as “a Hollywood-style romantic whirlwind weekend.”
“I can honestly say I was completely captivated by Amy within minutes of talking to her,” Bret wrote.
From Chance Meeting to Lasting Love
The couple was set up by a mutual friend and met for the first time at a Rolling Stones concert. From the very beginning, there was a deep, instant connection. Although they lived in different cities — Bret in Washington D.C. and Amy in Chicago — they maintained a long-distance relationship for a year before he proposed during Thanksgiving in 2003.
They were married on October 9, 2004. In 2024, they celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary — a milestone filled with love, growth, and shared challenges.
A Family-Centered Life
Beyond his prominent media career, Bret is a devoted father. He and Amy have two sons: Paul Francis (born June 29, 2007) and Daniel Bret Baier (born July 10, 2010).
Tragically, their first son Paul required major heart surgery just a day after he was born due to congenital heart defects. Bret recalled the devastating moment when the doctor delivered the news: “If your son doesn’t have surgery in the next two weeks, he won’t make it.”
He added, “My mouth went dry. I didn’t know where my next breath would come from. Time stood still.” And as Paul was being wheeled away for surgery, Bret turned to Amy and said, “Now it’s time to hand him over — to the doctors and the Big Guy upstairs.”
A Life of Purpose and Compassion
While Bret continues to anchor one of Fox News’ top programs, Amy dedicates her efforts to fundraising for children’s health causes — particularly for heart-related issues, a fight they know all too well.
Together, they remain united in their mission to support their son’s journey and give back to families facing similar battles — all while nurturing a home built on love, strength, and resilience.
