In an age where public opinion swings wildly, and political lines are etched deeper than ever before, it’s rare to see a figure from outside the political world step into the fray. But that’s exactly what NFL Hall of Famer Brett Favre has done—loudly and without apology—throwing his support behind a man under fire from all sides: Elon Musk.
It wasn’t just a social media post or a fleeting comment in an interview. Favre, known for his unshakable grit on the football field, decided to speak from the heart on The Ricky Cobb Show on OutKick.com. The timing was no coincidence. One day earlier, Musk—now a senior official in President Donald Trump’s administration and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)—had appeared at a town hall in Green Bay, Wisconsin, donning a Packers-inspired cheese head as a nod to the local crowd.

And the very next day, one of the most iconic Packers of all time decided to put his voice behind Musk, not just as a fellow legend in his own right, but as someone deeply troubled by what Musk was enduring.

“First of all, it’s… you know, it’s frightening. It’s scary,” Favre began, clearly emotional as he reflected on the backlash Musk has faced.
Indeed, Musk’s new government role has come at a great cost—not just to his business empire, but to his personal safety. Tesla dealerships have become targets for protest and rage, with some charging stations set ablaze, bullets fired into buildings, and dealership windows smashed in acts of retaliation.
The attacks have gotten so extreme that Attorney General Pam Bondi labeled them “domestic terrorism,” prompting the FBI to launch a special task force to investigate the growing wave of violence against Musk’s company.
Yet in the face of this chaos, Musk hasn’t backed down. And Favre sees something in that—a form of courage that deserves more praise than criticism.
“Back up,” Favre said, trying to lay out the full picture. “Elon Musk, several years ago, was a Democrat. And they loved him. He was the most brilliant inventor and smartest guy ever. Richest man in the world. He was on a pedestal.”
That pedestal has since crumbled—or more accurately, been kicked down by those who once revered him. But it’s not Musk who’s changed, Favre argues—it’s the perception of him.

“Now he’s working for free and trying to make this country better,” Favre continued. “Does he need to do that? No. If he wanted to ride into the sunset, buy several islands, and never be heard from again, he could do that.”
Favre’s point is a powerful one: Musk didn’t need to take on the government bureaucracy. He didn’t need to risk his financial empire, his safety, or his reputation. But he did. And Favre believes it’s because Musk, like Trump, genuinely loves the country.
“This has to do with love of country,” Favre said. “And people are hating them for that. I hate it for Elon. But I know it’s going to be okay. He’s a lot smarter than all of us. He’s pretty resilient.”
That word—resilient—seems to capture the spirit Musk has shown since aligning himself with Trump’s presidency and stepping into the firestorm of American politics. Whether it’s reforming agencies like the Social Security Administration, reshaping how government spending is tracked, or launching massive efficiency audits across federal institutions, Musk has made himself a target.
But according to Favre, that’s exactly what makes him heroic.
“Anyone who is willing to do what he is doing for this country deserves all the accolades that you can get,” he said. “Not the negative backlash.”

Favre, never one to mince words, turned his ire toward the political left, accusing them of orchestrating a smear campaign against Musk.
“Yeah, I just think that the left, in this case, in a lot of cases, is very evil,” he said. “To even remotely attack this guy the way that they have? It’s absolutely crazy. It’s just really frightening.”
To Favre, this isn’t just about politics—it’s about decency. It’s about recognizing when someone is putting themselves on the line for a greater cause. And he sees Musk’s journey as something that should unite Americans, not divide them.
The growing alliance between Musk and Trump—solidified during a campaign rally last summer where the Tesla CEO appeared on stage with the then-presidential candidate—has become a symbol of this shared mission. A mission, they argue, to restore balance, efficiency, and accountability in government.
But the cost has been severe.
For Musk, it’s been a public vilification that some say rivals Trump’s own journey. For Tesla, it’s been physical destruction, lost business, and security threats. For their families, it’s been a barrage of media scrutiny and personal attacks.

Yet in the face of it all, Musk continues his crusade. And now, with Favre publicly defending him, the billionaire isn’t standing alone.
In today’s hyper-partisan climate, celebrity endorsements often come off as scripted or self-serving. But this—this felt different. Favre didn’t have to say a word. He could’ve stayed on the sidelines.
But instead, he stepped up, not just to support a man under attack, but to challenge a nation to reconsider who it chooses to celebrate—and who it chooses to destroy.
Whether Musk’s path leads to reform or resistance, the presence of voices like Favre’s ensures he won’t walk it alone.
In the end, this isn’t just a story about a tech titan facing political backlash. It’s about what happens when someone dares to disrupt the system—not for power, but for purpose. And when legends from entirely different arenas see that purpose clearly enough to speak out, maybe it’s time the rest of us take notice too.
